About Online Lessons

For Voice Lessons

Voice lessons online are very similar to in person. We do warmups, and work on repertoire. If the student is a child, their lessons are playfully themed around their favorite subjects and characters, and I choose zoom backgrounds and YouTube soundscapes to match the themes and keep their interest.

  • You will simply need two devices for these lessons. One device is to play your music and one device for the zoom call.

For Piano Lessons

In online piano lessons, I use screen sharing through zoom to work with a variety of apps and curated content for music listening. If the student is a child, their lessons themed playfully around the content of our books and focus, as always on subjects like music reading, music appreciation, composer’s lives and repertoire. I develop at home practice strategies and in lesson schedules for students who need a little more help with focusing.  As for what you will need:
  • two devices on zoom, one placed two-three feet above the keys so I can see your hands (try using a selfie stick, shelf or books to create this)
  • a piano or keyboard
  • your book (will be given at first lesson)
*if you need extra help with camera set up, please reach out at rosalindhayes@doraymilessons.com and we can schedule a camera consult

For Guitar and Ukulele

If the student is a child, their lessons themed playfully around the content of our books and focus, as always on subjects like music reading, music appreciation, composer’s lives and repertoire. I develop at home practice strategies and in lesson schedules for students who need a little more help with focusing. You will need:
  • your instrument
  • a stool or pillow to sit on so your instrument is high enough for me to see
  • your book (will be given at first lesson)
